Hubble 3D Trailer 2

If you get a chance to see this, you will love it. Truly an amazing experience on the IMAX screen. Great use of 3D imagery from Hubble, with some of the best animation I’ve ever seen.

Farm Fresh Delivery

Farm Fresh Delivery - Indianapolis, IN

Farm Fresh Delivery - Indianapolis, IN

There is a service based in Indianapolis that supports local organic farms. Farm Fresh Delivery.

They provide home delivery of locally produced veggies, fruits, meats, dairy and other food items. The quality has been exceptionally high, and the delivery service has been flawless.

The pricing is comparable to buying organic produce at Whole Foods or Marsh, and new products are added frequently. They produce a weekly newsletter with recipes and ideas on how to use your weekly bounty.

I’ve found the service to be extremely convenient and it has encouraged me to eat and live better.  I have been a customer for several months and highly recommend the service.

As we move into the holiday season, I am going to buy as many gifts within walking distance from local vendors. Supporting our local economy is a big part of community responsibility, and this is my attempt to do my part.

History of health inspections for Marion county/Indianapolis establishments

June 3rd, 2008 indysawmill No comments

The Indianapolis Star just published a new tool that enables you to search the Marion county/Indianapolis food inspection records of resturants, pubs and other establishments

How does your favorite establishment stand up?  Kinda scary that some of my favorite places did not do very well.

Stone Temple Pilots to play at Carb Day

March 4th, 2008 indysawmill No comments

The Stone Temple Pilots have been named to headline the Indianapolis 500 Carb Day festivities.  After having Kid Rock here last year, it will be a welcome change.  ;)

This is consistently one of the biggest parties in the city and is usually a fantastic time.  2 years ago, the IMPD was a bit aggressive at early intervention by Taser, but last year seemed to be a bit more subdued.

Looking forward to it this year with the unification of the IRL and Champ Car series.  Should be a very competitive and enjoyable race.

The new Abbey on Mass Ave.

February 4th, 2008 indysawmill No comments

While walking the puppy today, I noticed some new signs in the windows of the empty space at the corner of Mass Ave, College Ave and St. Clair. This is the former location of the locally based “Abbey” coffeehouse and cafe. I really miss their wraps and chips. It truly was a staple of downtown living in Indianapolis during the late 1990′s.

However, I’m excited about the new place. From what I have heard, the new place will be called “Forty Five Degrees”, and the sign says “Sushi, Cocktails, Lunch and Dinner”. That may be a real winning combination to add to the mix of Mass Ave.

With the Scholar’s Inn still in the midst of renovation into a new ultra style bar, this end of Mass Ave really seems to be starting to pop.

Hoosier Author Kurt Vonnegut dies at age 84

April 12th, 2007 indysawmill No comments

One of my favorite authors died last night in a New York City hospital. Kurt Vonnegut was born in 1922 in Indianapolis, IN and has produced some of the great icons of American counterculture literature.

So pick up a copy of “Cat’s Cradle“, “Deadeye Dick“, or my personal favorite, “Breakfast of Champions“; sit down and order a beer from the Rathskiller bar in downtown Indianapolis, and enjoy them all over again.

Rest in peace, Mr. Vonnegut.

Indianapolis Ribfest 2007

April 5th, 2007 indysawmill No comments

One of my favorite times of the year, is the Rib America “Ribfest” that takes place downtown in Indianapolis. The food, music and crowd are always entertaining.

National Barbecue Association

Here is the music line up for 2007.

Look forward to seeing you all there!

Indianapolis Rib America “RibFest”
Labor Day Weekend (August 31 – September 3, 2007)
Military Park (White River State Park)

Update Aug 31, 2007 @ 5:45pm: I had a chance to go to the Ribfest for lunch today. “Pigfeet”, in the far east corner of the event’s brisket was TOP NOTCH. The crowd was light today and mostly business lunch goers from around downtown. Tonight is Pat Benatar and I imagine the crowd will be big with the wonderful weather we are having.

Point of note! This year, for the first time that I remember, they will be CHARGING ADMISSION after a certain time. (5pm tonight, and I think 1pm this weekend) The admission is $4 per person, under 12 free. You get 7 tickets for $10 this year and by the time you do the math, it can be an expensive evening out for a family. The food choices and games seem to be better this year, and they have changed the angle of the stage to better accommodate large crowds.

Hopefully I will be spending some time in the VIP area for KC and the Sunshine Band Saturday evening and Buddy Guy on Monday. See you there! Pictures soon.

Update Sat, Sept 1, 2007 @ 8:42pm: The crowd is heavy tonight as the Sky Concert is at 9pm over by the canal. The crowd has been heavy most of the day and the parking has been extremely tight. People are even parking on the east side of downtown and hiking over to Military Park. Great weather, though!

Hurricane Peyton

February 2nd, 2007 indysawmill No comments

Just announced! The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) has issued a hurricane warning for the east coast of Florida.

The CAT5 storm will make landfall this Sunday, Feb 4th 2007 around 6:30 EST.

This storm is known to produce massive amounts of disruption for any defense and residents, especially Bears fans, are urged to take cover immediately.

Sign for the Colts game

January 18th, 2007 indysawmill No comments

Cut That Meat!As many of you know, I’m lucky enough to have tickets for this weekend’s Colts vs. Patriots AFC Championship game here in Indianapolis. It’s very exciting for all of us here in Indianapolis and the Dome will be alive on Sunday.
But, I need your help. Since our seats are in the end-zone that reads “Colts”, I was wanting to take some signs that have a CBS theme. So, give me your ideas in the comments below. Maybe you’ll see it during Sunday’s game!

Bonus points if you can denigrate Cris Collingsworth in the process. He has picked against the Colts.. yet again. What a tool.

Some of my favorites so far:

  • Cut That Meat!
  • Dear Mike, Wish you were here, Love Adam

Enter your suggestions below.

Indianapolis Colts in the AFC Championship Game!

January 16th, 2007 indysawmill No comments

Bring on the Patriots!

Colts vs. Chiefs - 2007 NFL Playoffs - 1

This game is so perfect on many levels. We were the No. 3 seeded underdog going into shunned Baltimore, and we walked away with a smash mouth victory. Much like the No 4 seeded New England Patriots did on Sunday with their victory over the Chargers in San Diego.

So, now the Patriots come to Indianapolis. How perfect! I say, bring them on. We are ready. We have already beat them once this year and our defense wasn’t playing nearly as well.

Peyton simply can (and will) not have a 3rd lackluster game in a row. It just doesn’t happen. Another part of the perfect storm.

Let’s not forget Adam Vinatieri. Indianapolis fans are very familiar with the game winning passion this guy delivers, seemingly every time. We were happy with Mike VanderShank, but he seemed to fold a bit under pressure even while in his prime. Couldn’t be more perfect.

The Colts LOVE big games, especially those during the regular season. Ask the Patriots, Eagles or Bengals. They simply have to step up to that level during the post-season and they will find themselves in Miami facing the Saints. (Sorry Bears fans, but your team is simply NOT peaking at the right time…while the Saints are. Maybe an off-season QB change will get you there next year…). The final wind to spark the perfect storm and set the stage for a perfect 2007 AFC Championship!

Expect some pictures from the game posted here Sunday PM.

And, GO COLTS! Believe!

Indianapolis Colts vs. Chiefs

January 8th, 2007 indysawmill No comments

What a great game! The Colts defense stood up and stopped one of the best backs in the NFL. Congrats!

Colts vs. Chiefs 2007 Playoffs

This picture is right before the Peyton Manning to Reggie Wayne touchdown in the 3rd quarter right in front of our seats in the “Colts” end zone.

The crowd was loud and ready for the game by the time 4:30PM EST rolled around. One of the best thing about Saturday afternoon games is the full day of recovery on Sunday. ;) After tailgating (i.e. drinking) from about 12:30 until kick-off, many of the fans were already in a solid state of disrepute by the time Dante Hall received the initial kick-off.

Before the game you’d have a difficult time getting anyone to take the under for L. Johnson gaining 150 yards on the OVER/UNDER. Who could have predicted the Colts would contain LJ? Even Colts Head Coach Tony Dungy repeatedly showed no confidence in his defense by playing an extremely conservative game. However, one can not argue with the end result and the victory.

If the Colts can come close to the defensive effort shown this past week in Baltimore, perhaps Defensive Coordinator Ron Meeks can save his job during the off season.

More pictures of the Colts vs. Chiefs game here.
