A Rumor Classic - Return of the Sleazetest (v2.0)
See, this little blog of mine has roots all the way back to 1996, when
I ran a mailing list containing (mostly) friends called Gun
Geeks.? Anyway, someone posted this little quiz to the
list..? Me, being the enthusiastic and bored programming geek I am
sometimes, put the test up on the Internet via PHP.?
To the best of my knowledge, this is one of the first on-line Sleaze
Test quizzes that ever existed on the Internet.? I kinda missed it,
so I recoded it this weekend.? At last look, over 150,000 people
had taken the first Sleaze Test between 1996-2001 (or so).
Give it a try.? If at least 5 people post their scores in the
discussion forums, I might be compelled to release my rather unseemly
high score.

Kitchen Myths - Good, quick read
How to make $158 Million in less than a week
earned over $158 Million in it’s first week, shattering the previous Spider-Man record set in 2002. This is a huge number, but does not surprise me. However, even this massive number can not stop the overall trend of the big screen losing numbers. I think this movie will have “legs” also, because many people have waited to see the movie to avoid the crowds.
Time Magazine has released an “All-Time 100 Movies” list.
This Salon Blog written by Dave Pollard talks about how to train yourself to think differently about something you may already think you know. Everyone is
guilty of “knowing they are right” sometimes, except Republicans… They always think they are right, but rarely are. *grin*
It’s my blog, and I’ll be bias if I want to… bias if I want to…..You would be to if it happened too you…
This article by the same author talks about Appreciative inquiry, complex systems and the four practices of open space. Interesting reading.
Here is an article on how to correctly use RSS. RSS is another piece of technology that has exploded in the past 12-18 months. Lots of Web Development tools here, also. Piturequest has a ton of royalty free images on their site. Good resource.
Kuro5hin has an excellent piece with lots of links for web development professionals.
Remember all the hubbub over the RIAA shutting down TV bittorrent downloads? Mindjack has an article that claims how Bittorrent actually HELPS some series get noticed, including Battlestar Galactica and the new Dr. Who from the UK.
This technology is currently fairly immature, however as it matures, Bittorrent (or what comes next) will become more and more troublesome for the RIAA and MPAA.
Finally, the next time some right-wing nut cases goes off on you about the nonsense of Creationism, this site will give you some good counterpoints.
Seriously, is it really too much to ask to keep religion in your
church, and OUT of public schools? Evidently it is for some
morons.

Sphere: Related ContentHere comes PodCasting!
If I haven’t said it here before, I will now… Podcasting
is going to be HUGE. Some would argue that it already is… I bet
XM/Sirius are sweating bullets as to where this technology will go.
Basically, Podcasts can provide the same quality and level of services
as the satellite providers, but with a fraction of the infrastructure
costs (web servers vs. launching many satellites).
Some new tools are already showing up such as GarageBand’s PodCast Studio which just unveiled the first consumer on-line tool to Record, Mix and Publish Podcasts. Apple is getting into the game by building-in Podcast subscriptions into the next release of iTunes and providing Podcast content via the iTunes Music Store. (Look, Audible.com just pissed their pants, also!)
If you enjoy listening to quality talk shows on your own existing
equipment and schedule, all or mostly all free of costs, podcasting may
be just what you’ve been waiting on.
(Thanks to TWH for the links!)

Sphere: Related ContentMonday Morning Quickies
I am still getting use to the new blog software and have not installed a spell checker yet. Please forgive any errors for now.

Here we go with a batch of quickies:
Watched Star Wars III: Revenge of the Sith this weekend. I give it a highly favorable review and enjoyed the movie very much. George Lucas has redeemed himself for episodes I & II.
I also enjoyed MoveOn’s take on SW:RotS.
Google introduced some new features last week. I made it my new default page when Firefox is started. Very cool.
Article regarding Paris Hilton’s sidekick and how it was hacked. Turns out the vulnerability has been present for quite some time but T-Mobile continued to ignore it. That will teach’em!
Finally, what quickie entry of mine would be complete without a link to I, Cringely. As usual, this week he really hits the nail on the head and muses about predicting the future of technology. Interesting read as always.
In the ever increasing wars over HD DVD standards, TDK has lobbed this one over the bow of Toshiba’s ship last week. 100GB on a four-layer disc. This is going to make backing up my music and movies a WHOLE lot easier.

With this post, I have retired my Musings Blog at Blogger and will post all future entries here. Blogger is great software, and I enjoyed using it for the past year. However, there is nothing like running your own software on your own server. Makes geeks happy!

Sphere: Related ContentTo God, or not to God
My good friend’s blog has a lively discussion regarding Pascal’s Wager and one’s belief in God.
While I understand the premise of the Wager, I dismiss the conclusion because Pascal was only considering his idea of God. There are many other reasons to dismiss such a simplistic argument for the existance of God.
For instance, it does beg the question as to what is used as a measuring stick to one’s worthiness for entry into heaven. Is one that lives a moral and well-intentioned life, but lacks faith in the “right” God somehow less worthy of salvation, than one who lives a somewhat immoral life but professes belief in what happens to be the correct deity. To read the Christian bible, one would tend to believe that those who are not baptized into the body of Christ, are doomed. This hardly seems fair.
If God does exist, and blessed us with “free will” at our creation. And, this God then provides no scientific provable evidence of His existence. Is it just to damn one simply for examining the evidence, and using free will to decide not to believe due to lack of evidence? If God is “good” and has no evil, then why does he allow evil to exist? Or, if some evil is needed as is commonly argued, why so much evil? Wouldn’t a bit less evil be enough to remind us? How about a lot less evil, in a proportionally more good world? Wouldn’t a little evil then, be more than enough to remind and deter us from pursuing more evil?
The bottom line for me is this, until there is substantially more proof that a God was needed for our universe to exist, than one was not needed, I remain far less than convinced in God’s existance.
I’m open to more data and observation, but so far..Science wins.
