April 28th, 2007

Cale and Therese

Thanks to everyone who came out Wednesday to celebrate my birthday. I had an absolute blast and it was great catching up with everyone.

You can see some pictures of the event in my gallery.

Here’s to another great year!

Does your puppy love you?

April 27th, 2007

Brody the puggle

According to the New York Times, how your dog wags their tail, tells you how they are feeling.

If you are a dog owner, then you probably already can tell if your dog is happy or sad. How they look, act and sound tends to give away their thoughts. My puppy (see picture above of Brody) would be a terrible poker player, but that’s ok. ;)
From the NY Times article:

When the dogs saw their owners, their tails all wagged vigorously with a bias to the right side of their bodies, Dr. Vallortigara said. Their tails wagged moderately, again more to the right, when faced with an unfamiliar human. Looking at the cat, a four-year-old male whose owners volunteered him for the experiment, the dogs’ tails again wagged more to the right but in a lower amplitude.

So, the next time your dog starts whining at the neighbor’s cat, or meets an intimidating cousin while on a walk; see if you can tell how your dog is feeling by the way he wags his tail.

Hoosier Author Kurt Vonnegut dies at age 84

April 12th, 2007

One of my favorite authors died last night in a New York City hospital. Kurt Vonnegut was born in 1922 in Indianapolis, IN and has produced some of the great icons of American counterculture literature.

So pick up a copy of “Cat’s Cradle“, “Deadeye Dick“, or my personal favorite, “Breakfast of Champions“; sit down and order a beer from the Rathskiller bar in downtown Indianapolis, and enjoy them all over again.

Rest in peace, Mr. Vonnegut.

Movie Trailer: Good Luck Chuck

April 9th, 2007

While I don’t consider myself a huge Dane Cook fan, how could you ignore Jessica Alba…

This movie looks hilarious, and the best line of the trailer is in the last 10 seconds. Worth a quick watch.

Indianapolis Ribfest 2007

April 5th, 2007

One of my favorite times of the year, is the Rib America “Ribfest” that takes place downtown in Indianapolis. The food, music and crowd are always entertaining.

National Barbecue Association

Here is the music line up for 2007.

Look forward to seeing you all there!

Indianapolis Rib America “RibFest”
Labor Day Weekend (August 31 - September 3, 2007)
Military Park (White River State Park)

Update Aug 31, 2007 @ 5:45pm: I had a chance to go to the Ribfest for lunch today. “Pigfeet”, in the far east corner of the event’s brisket was TOP NOTCH. The crowd was light today and mostly business lunch goers from around downtown. Tonight is Pat Benatar and I imagine the crowd will be big with the wonderful weather we are having.

Point of note! This year, for the first time that I remember, they will be CHARGING ADMISSION after a certain time. (5pm tonight, and I think 1pm this weekend) The admission is $4 per person, under 12 free. You get 7 tickets for $10 this year and by the time you do the math, it can be an expensive evening out for a family. The food choices and games seem to be better this year, and they have changed the angle of the stage to better accommodate large crowds.

Hopefully I will be spending some time in the VIP area for KC and the Sunshine Band Saturday evening and Buddy Guy on Monday. See you there! Pictures soon.

Update Sat, Sept 1, 2007 @ 8:42pm: The crowd is heavy tonight as the Sky Concert is at 9pm over by the canal. The crowd has been heavy most of the day and the parking has been extremely tight. People are even parking on the east side of downtown and hiking over to Military Park. Great weather, though!
