Profiting from Podcasting
As I said about the Apple iTunes Music Store, people will pay for
KNOWN, GOOD content.? If a radio station makes their content available via a simple method (i.e. Podcasting),
people will pay a nominal fee to listen to it ON THEIR SCHEDULE.?
Get it??
I use to cringe when I heard the whole “…500 channels” spiel.?
Consumers don’t want 500 channels to go through, hell, it’s hard enough
with only 200-300.? Consumers want 1 (one) channel, showing what
they want to watch, when they want to watch it…
and obviously, playing what they want to hear, when they want to listen
to it.? It really isn’t overly difficult to comprehend.
We will see more and more of this in the coming months and years.?
My next bold prediction?
Podcasting will change the entire landscape of programmed, network
radio.? They will have to adapt or die.? Why would I want to
bother with a radio, when the content I want to listen to is tucked
nicely away on my laptop/iPod/Shuffle?? Why would I want to bother
with Satellite radio??
Times are a changin’

The PHP scripting language is 10 years old!
I can’t believe PHP is 10 years old!?
When I first started developing web applications in 1994, there was
really only one choice.? Perl.?
Early in 1995, my friend, who was also my
systems administrator at the time, introduced me to PHP.? It was a small CGI that parsed script tags embedded
WITHIN the HTML!? No more building entire HTML documents from
within Perl printf functions!? Oh Joy.
When Rasmus started developing an Apache plug-in (PHP/FI), I was
certainly hooked.? I developed my first e-commerce site in 1995
using PHP/FI & mSQL and it was a huge success.?? Since
then, my companies have developed dozens of projects and applications
from small to large using the LAMP (Linux/Apache/MySQL/PHP)
platform.? This platform has matured to the point where it is
ubquitous to world wide web.? Even this very site is powered by
LAMP.
Some Trivia…? During the early years of the Internet boom (1994-1996), my company HolliCom
Internet Services hosted the main PHP mailing list and some of
the? PHP website for Rasmus.?
Rasmus was always extremely gracious with
his support and I will always feel a debt of gratitude to him for enabling me to make a living all these years.? 10 of them!
So, happy birthday to PHP! Here’s to many more!

Sphere: Related ContentRelief from Sarbanes-Oxley on the way?
inane of changes at work?? If so,
this article may be for you..
Bringing a large or small enterprise into compliance with the new
Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) regulations is not cheap.? However, perhaps it is more expensive than it needs to be.? This may
be due to over-reactions and misinterpretations of the regulations, as
the CNET article suggests.
However, I would wager that another sizable portion of the unnecessary
expense is Vendor’s exploiting Fear, Uncertainty and Doubt (FUD) about
SOX to up-sell their products or services to CIO/CFO/CXO’s.
Good read to understand what is going on and what may change.

How to add Spell Checking to your Firefox browser
Whenever I write something in a browser, I always catch myself Copy and Pasting the clip into a new email or MS Word document to give it a good thorough spell checking.
No doubt, my writing requires a good spell checker…
Over on the right, you see a Check Spelling selection in a drop down menu. This is what I see when I right-click (Control-click for Mac users) a text area or form field from within my Firefox browser.
Quick-Start
If you have installed Firefox extensions before, then this will be a cinch for you. Just click the following link and you are on your way.
SpellBound - Spellchecker for Firefox and the Mozilla Suite
More Detail
However, if you would like some more details on how to install a Firefox extension, then please read on…
Finding Firefox Extensions
Typically, the easiest way to find the latest extensions for Firefox is to use the Extension Tool from the FireFox Top Menu. When you select Tools>Extensions and you will see something like this:

However, I will save you this step for now and give you a direct link. However, in the future, I highly recommend browsing the extensions available. Some of them can be extremely valuable!
Go directly to the installation page for the Spell Checker Firefox Extension and follow the directions for installation of the Spell Checker extension on your platform.
Important: When you attempt to install any extension, you will be greeted by a screen like the following one. Simply click Install Now.

Restart Firefox
After you install the Extension, you will need to completely restart your FireFox browser. This means going to the top menu and selecting Quit Firefox, waiting for the program to completely exit, then restart Firefox. This will reload any extensions you may have installed.
You’re done!
After you restart your browser, load a page that has a form with a text entry area. Type some text into the form textarea, then Right-click (Control-click) and you should see something like the first screen shot in this entry.
Go ahead and select Check Spelling and you will see something like this screen shot.
From this screen, you can Replace or Ignore and even teach your dictionary new words that may be specific to your industry or habits.
I hope this helps you get Spell Checking installing into your FireFox Browser!
Jan 5, 2007 Update: Firefox 2.0 includes built-in spell checking and the above is now obsolete.

However, If you watched the 2005 Apple WWDC Keynote with Steve Jobs and

iTunes supporting podcasting natively.
Windows users, it now seems you can bypass iTunes altogether and use WinAmp to manage your iPod.? Interesting…
Wired has another article regarding Skype.?
I downloaded the latest version and played with it for a while.?
It seems to have matured somewhat and doesn’t peg my processor any
more.? Very cool!? This is a piece of software is definitely
worth checking out.? The future of V/VOIP (Voice and Video Over
Internet Protocol)
continues to get brighter and brighter.
A real quick article regarding Linux/Apache/MySQL/PHP (LAMP).?
I really don’t think many people grasp just how well LAMP can scale up
if you know what you are doing.? Most people don’t.
Did you see that for the first time, a majority of American’s say they are likely to vote for Hillary Rodham Clinton??
If that doesn’t tell you how badly President Bush is doing, I don’t
know what would.? I use to think even wild buffalo’s couldn’t
drive this country into Hillary’s camp.. Evidently, it just takes one
goofball from Texas.

Dave works hard at the plant and spends most evenings bowling or playing basketball at the gym.
His wife thinks he is pushing himself too hard, so for his birthday she takes him to a local strip club.
The doorman at the club greets them and says, “Hey, Dave! How ya doin?”
His wife is puzzled and asks if he’s been to this club before.
“Oh no,” says Dave. “He’s on my bowling team.”
When they are seated, a waitress asks Dave if he’d like his usual and brings over a Budweiser.
His wife is becoming increasingly uncomfortable and says, “How did she know that you drink Budweiser?”
“She’s in the Ladies’ Bowling League, honey. We share lanes with them.”
A stripper then comes over to their table, throws her arms around Dave,
starts to rub herself all over him and says, “Hi Davey. Want your usual
table dance, big boy?”
Dave’s wife, now furious, grabs her purse and storms out of the club.
Dave follows and spots her getting into a cab.
Before she can slam the door, he jumps in beside her.
Dave tries desperately to explain how the stripper must have mistaken him for someone else, but his wife is having none of it.
She is screaming at him at the top of her lungs, calling him every 4 letter word in the book.
The cabby turns around and says,
“Geez Dave, you picked up a real bitch this time”.
