Bloglines, RSS Feeds and XML, OH MY!
After being repeatedly asked about what technology news sites I read, and how in the world I keep up with it all… I thought I would share some of my secrets here…
First, RSS is king. I started out with a good newsreader. For Windows users, I recommend switching from MSIE to Mozilla Firefox, not just for the RSS feed functionality, but for the many security and reliability issues. Trust me, you won’t be disappointed… Firefox runs faster and is much more stable. But, don’t take my word for it.
I’ve recently moved my “public” newsfeeds to Bloglines, which allows easy sharing and management. This also gives me the ability to read my news from ANYWHERE, regardless if I’m on my laptop or not.
The next version of Safari will include RSS functionality, similar to Mozilla. As this technology propagates, I feel it (or some 1st or 2nd cousin) will truly begin to explode in usage and functionality for the mainstream user.
